Holodais
Holodais is from St.Catharines, Canada. Conceived by Kyle MacVicar (guitar/vocals) as well as Stuart Smith (drums). Both are lifelong friends who've known each other since kindergarten. The two started creating music together in high school after bonding over similar bands and artists. Both have played in several different bands together before they decided to create Holodais in 2016. The following year guitarist/vocalist Jon Rahman joined the group. In the late summer of 2021 Tania Alcantar joined Holodais as bassist.
After spending time in the studio in 2016 & 2017, they started to perform live. They released an EP and went on their 'Halloween 2017 Tour' which consisted of nine shows across Ontario and Quebec. Early 2018 they were on the road again playing eight shows across Ontario and Quebec on their 'Bright Ideas Tour'. Around this time, they had been interviewed by the Ottawa Experimental Music Blog. After this they released a jazz pop single called 'Way of the Moon' which was accompanied with a music video. Holodais have played around 35 shows in Canada and have performed with other Canadian acts such as Men I Trust, Anemone, New Swears and Goodbye Honolulu. Their music has been played on CILU 102.7fm, KUCR 88.3fm, WRFI 88.1fm, CFRU 93.3fm and featured on various music outlets such as Fuzzy Sun, Last Day Deaf, From The Strait & Independent Music Reviews website.
Holodais utilizes different genres like indie rock/pop, garage, surf and psychedelic rock. As well as jazz and some smaller elements of new wave/post-punk and blues. They can resonate with fans of acts like MGMT, The Beach Boys, Real Estate, Supertramp & Josef K. They are open-minded to a wide range of genres within the world of rock. This makes their fans unable to pinpoint who they exactly sound like and allows them to not have to conform to one particular sound.
